Quick answer

IFTA Account Setup & Filings — in one paragraph

IFTA (the International Fuel Tax Agreement) is a fuel tax agreement among states and Canadian provinces that simplifies reporting fuel used by interstate motor carriers. QP sets up your IFTA account for $150 ($100 with promo code), files quarterly returns for $60 ($40 promo) and handles annual renewals for $100 ($70 promo).

The International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) is a fuel consumption tax agreement among states and Canadian provinces to simplify the reporting of fuel used by interstate or inter-jurisdictional motor carriers. IFTA must be filed quarterly and has an annual renewal.

We help get your account set up, can help file it quarterly, and can handle your annual renewal — including the mileage and fuel purchase records the base jurisdiction requires.

What IFTA registration gives you

One IFTA license and one set of decals covers your fleet across all member jurisdictions instead of separate fuel tax accounts in each state. You report miles traveled and gallons purchased per jurisdiction each quarter, and IFTA nets it into a single payment or credit.

Carriers whose trucks cross state lines are almost always better off under IFTA than under separate state registrations — but only if the quarterly filing is accurate and on time, because late filings trigger penalties and a suspended license.

FAQ

IFTA questions, answered

The questions our Louisville team hears most from owner-operators and fleet owners.

IFTA is the International Fuel Tax Agreement — a system that lets one base jurisdiction collect and distribute fuel tax for all member states and provinces. Carriers operating qualified vehicles in more than one jurisdiction need an IFTA license and quarterly filings.

QP charges $150 for new IFTA registration ($100 with promo code), $60 per quarterly filing ($40 with promo code) and $100 for the annual renewal ($70 with promo code). Factoring clients receive the discounted rates.

IFTA returns are due the last day of the month following the end of each quarter: April 30, July 31, October 31 and January 31. Late filing can lead to penalties, interest and a suspended IFTA license.

No. If your vehicles never leave your home state, you generally do not need IFTA — but if your trucks cross a state or provincial line while operating, you must register and file.

Total miles by jurisdiction, total gallons of fuel purchased by jurisdiction and your fleet's fuel efficiency. Fuel card statements, ELD reports and trip sheets are the usual source documents — we reconcile them for you.
